Ribbon cutting at Hudson Square Plaza expands Spring Street Park
MUD Workshop is excited to celebrate today’s ribbon-cutting for Hudson Square Plaza, marking the completion of a pilot expansion of Spring Street Park onto Little Sixth Avenue. In response to increased pedestrian volumes in Hudson Square, MUD Workshop collaborated with the Hudson Square BID to explore interim solutions to accommodate growing foot traffic while avoiding the high cost of long-term capital improvements. The project introduced a temporary deck system to expand pedestrian space and reclaim public right-of-way, extended the existing plaza onto Little Sixth Avenue, and added programming and amenities to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity. The new plaza creates a flexible gathering space for residents, workers, students, and visitors, strengthens pedestrian connections into Hudson Square, and adds vibrant new public space to the fast-growing neighborhood.
